I discovered Irish Moss while I was surfing the Internet about my wrinkles and dark circles. And there I found this magical ingredient which not just have a few skin benefits but have some major health benefits as well. For those who are not aware of this incredible ingredient, I must tell you Irish moss is a form of red algae that when converted into a gel resembles a moisturizer which many of us are addicted to. This edible skincare routine may take you to a different level of skincare.
The seaweed is a superfood which can be either added to the food you eat or can be used externally on skin to get great results. It is known to contain 15 of the 18 essential elements that make up the human body. It contains calcium, iodine, sulfur and potassium as well as Vitamins A, D, E, F and K. Just imagine, how these elements can change our way of living if taken internally or used externally on daily basis. Irish moss does wonders for our health and that way, it can have some amazing benefits on our skin
Gradually, I was a bit confused about how to use this ingredient externally, though I have tried cooking food adding Irish moss. After searching all the way through books and Internet, I found out about how to turn it into a gel and apply on the skin. Let me explain to you that how it is to be done:
Step1: take a small handful of moss (a good quality and fresh moss) and rinse it in three or four times in cold water. Soak it in water for about 6 hours and change the soaking water twice within 6 hours. It will make the moss swell up like a balloon and it even makes it lose its odor.
Step 2: Drain the water and rinse the soaked moss and put it into the blender with half a cup of water and blend. Keep blending it unless it becomes as smooth as a gel. It may take a little while.
Step3: Leave the blending while it has some chunks left in it. This will make the moss an exfoliator along with a mask. I did it to have the maximum benefits on Irish moss.
Step4: Keep the gel in the refrigerator for about an hour to feel the cold mask on your hot skin. For summers, it makes up the best mask.
Step5: Now, apply the mask to your face and keep it on for at least 30 minutes. It may feel a bit tighter in your skin but definitely not dry.
Step6: Now wash off the mask and feel what you have achieved after applying it. Your skin may feel taut but not dry at all, unlike other commercial masks. At least I felt fresh and dewy for a whole day.
Store the gel in the refrigerator for maximum up to three weeks and enjoy the benefits of Irish Moss for as much time as you can.
Still wondering if to use it or not? Don’t worry let me explain how many roles does it play for your skin.
- Irish Moss As An Hydrator
The seaweed is great for skin. When applied to the dry or rough skin, it helps rehydrate the skin because of its high mineral content, leaving the skin silky and smooth. Irish moss even helps treat several other skin disorders like sunburns and rashes. Vitamin A, B, C, and D present in it play an effective role in nourishing the skin to make it healthy.
- Irish Moss As A Moisturizer
Red algae is a natural moisturizer. As soon as you bring it in contact with your skin, it naturally enhances the moisture barrier of the skin. Moreover, it helps block out harmful elements that can damage the skin.
- Irish Moss As An Anti-Aging Serum
With time, skin loses its elasticity. Vitamins K present in Irish moss deals with keeping skin’s elasticity intact. It considerably reduces the appearance of wrinkles and diminishes dark circles and bags under the eyes.
This seaweed is amazing in all the contexts. Along with such amazing benefits of Irish moss, it helps keep your body healthy in every term. It helps in protecting against arteriosclerosis, hypertension, and fat buildup. It also helps prevent the buildup of cholesterol and protect against obesity. All these benefits of Irish Moss cannot be ignored when it comes to caring for your skin.
